About Us

Perennial Gardens was started in 1949 by Ben and Dorothy Salzwedel. They originally started selling plants out of their home in Mt. View. Then in 1961 they moved to International and Jewel Lake and opened up a retail greenhouse. When the state of Alaska widened the road, they were forced to relocate.

In 1984 they built the greenhouse here in Chugiak, where their daughter and her family lived.

Their daughter, her husband and two of their daughters continue to own and operate Perennial Gardens.
